Why “Fight the Future” Still Holds Up at 25

Sawyer Pruitt · September 1, 2023

In the summer of 1998, between seasons five and six, The X-Files did something almost no television show dared: it put Mulder and Scully on cinema screens in a film that was both a satisfying standalone and a vital piece of the mythology.

It never forgot to be scary

From the Texas cavern to the Antarctic ship, Fight the Future understood that the franchise’s secret weapon was dread — the sense that the ground beneath you is hollow and something is moving down there.

Relive it on the big screen

We’re marking 25 years with a Saturday screening at PhileFest. Pull out your flannel and your Doc Martens — it’s gonna be all that and a bag of popcorn.
